LEF Expeditions Ltd. is a young dynamic organisation for travellers who want to experience the world by taking the ultimate challenging routes available on this planet. This organisation began in New Zealand in 2008 under Dutch management. LEF was created from the passion for travelling. The founder Esmeralda Veth (1979, Dutch) has always been interested to travel in the same style as local people do in their country. People connect faster when they have common interests and share the same road. This way of travelling will bring you close to people and enable you to learn more about their world. Her curiosity for different cultures and the fact she is not scared to roughen it got her into fascinating worlds. For example Esmeralda has travelled over the Amazon rivers by cargo ship. Many villages in the Amazon can only be reached by boat and cargo ships are the common means of transport for local people. Living on board showed her life in this unique part of the world. She also discovered the route from Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado in the Southern Amazon Basin of Peru on the back of a truck. This is the way poor people travel in this part of the Amazon and show you their daily life. Other adventures include riding her 500cc Royal Enfield through the Indian Himalayas. Previous riding experience was limited to 1000 km in New Zealand but determined to make it to the end and confident to tackle the sometimes hectic roads in India she managed well. It was a great experience meeting Indian motor bikers and seeing local daily life in the Himalayas.
Besides amazing journeys, she has lived in diverse countries like Spain, New Zealand and Argentina. Her extensive travel experience combined with her Masters degree in International Business enables her to successfully organise expedition travel for like minded people.
LEF Expeditions value the wealth of local culture and sharing it with others. Our guides are locals and will show you daily life in the places we travel through. The way we travel from one place to the next is strongly connected with the local culture. For example riding a Royal Enfield motorbike through India is your free passport into the local biker scene. This will enable you to interact more with locals sharing common interests and being part of their world. LEF values local economies. Travelling through places and countries we share our lives and experiences with local people. With these people we want to work together. A large part of your money paid for the expedition can then flow back into the local economy. This means that we will use local accommodation, local food establishments, local guides and local transport facilities as much as possible. Working together and sharing cultures is the best way to interact, be part of the place and to support independence. We value challenge. To challenge yourself is to experience, learn and grow as a person. It is a great feeling to accomplish a journey that has challenged you physically and/or mentally and to travel from one place to another in an authentic way. This feeling is further enhanced working as a team, for example sailing a yacht over the South Pacific Ocean. We will guide you and enhance safety as much as possible but it is still you who will ride your own ride. We value a green world. As a standard rule for all our expeditions we will leave the place as we found it. We take our garbabe out, do not harm the environment and will leave no traces behind.
Meet Anu, he is your man for the Royal Himalayas Expedition. He leads the expedition and makes sure you will have a great time riding your Royal Enfield motorbike over the highest motorable passes in the world, the Indian Himalayas. Anu is 28 years old and has lived his whole life in Ladakh. He has been riding a Royal Enfield since his early teenage years and has a deep passion for both his local region and this type of motorbike. He is a legend and well known in the motorbike scene of Ladakh. He is a committed guide who will make sure you will have a good time riding a motorbike, an expert in fixing and fine tuning Royal Enfields and the one who can introduce you to the real India. Anu is kind, generous and knowledgeable and we are proud working together with him.
We use different guides for the Huayhuash trekking. If you include a summit climb to Mount Diablo Mudo we will use official mountaineering guides. It is possible that Aldo or Carlos will join you. Both guides are official mountaineering guides with great experience hiking and mountaineering the Peruvian Andes and have a lot of knowledge to share. Aldo was born in Huaraz and Carlos comes from the Cordillera Huayhuash itself. They are passionate about the mountains and look forward showing you their home country.
Here are a few more pictures of the permanent crew of this year: Purser Amanda, Cook Amy and Deckhand Eric.
